There is an important Budget Override Election to be held on
Tuesday, March 9th
This override will be decided within 10 days of the PRE-voting results!!! Be sure to look for your early ballot in the mail.
Please see http://www.kyrene.org/aboutksd/budgetupdates/MOBudgetElection.htm for additional information
Highlights:
- This would be a continuation of the existing M&O Override & K-3 Override that were previously approved by voters in 2007.
- This will allow these monies to continue for the next 7 years
- There will be NO INCREASE in the tax rate because this replaces the already existing override.
- This override will help maintain programs already in place
- If the override is NOT APPROVED for continuation, the existing override will phase out reducing one-third ($4,133,333) in 2012 and an additional one-third in 2013, lowering the tax rate by $0.1443. As a result, current programs offered in Kyrene would be significantly reduced or eliminated!
Renewal of this override supports Kyrene by maintaining present levels of service in the following areas:
- Elementary art, music & PE
- Middle School instructional programs including academic and exploratory opportunities
- Class Size in all grade levels
- K-3 reading and math intervention
- School-based student support services (library, health office, occupational & physical therapy, speech & hearing services, etc)
- Other district-wide support services
Let’s talk about MY MONEY! What does continuing this override COST ME?
The override tax rate in the past several years:
2009 - $0.4343
2008 - $0.4679
2007 - $0.6000
Homeowners - $43.28 for each $100,000 assessed valuation.
Will NEW PROGRAMS be added if the override passes? NO. Passage will allow programs to CONTINUE. Without this override the programs will be significantly or eliminated.
